EternaLEnVy returning to pro Dota 2 with Black N Yellow roster

Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao is returning to professional Dota 2, and he already has a new home.

On the official Dota 2 major registration page, EternaLEnVy was added to the roster of Black N Yellow. The move comes two days after the release of Francis “FLee” Lee and Eric “Ryoya” Dong.

Following the move, Black N Yellow has the following players registered to its roster for the next round of the North American Dota Pro Circuit League:

  • Luke "YamSun" Wang
  • Daniel “zero” Yun
  • Andrew “Jubei” Evelyn
  • Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao

Ahead of the addition of EternaLEnVy, FLee was officially registered to Simply TOOBASED. Ryoya has not yet registered with a new team, but competed with PentAce during BTS Pro Series Season 5 and is likely to stay on as the team’s new mid laner. Black N Yellow still has an empty spot on its roster even after adding EternaLEnVy to its ranks.

It is currently unclear what role EternaLEnVy will fill on the Black N Yellow roster. YamSun filled the carry role during the first cycle of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit season and has not played in any other position at this point in his professional Dota 2 career. EternaLEnVy has played as a mid laner in the past and could be set to replace Ryoya, but his greatest successes have historically been as a carry.

Things likely won’t become entirely clear until the start of the season, unless Black N Yellow adds another big name player to the roster.

Where has EternaLEnVy been?

EternaLEnVy is returning to competitive Dota 2 after an extended hiatus stemming from his inability to settle with a team before the start of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit season.

He started the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit season as a part of Fighting PandaS alongside a number of past teammates, but left that team in order to join Cloud9. This latest iteration of Cloud9 suffered a disastrous losing streak and disbanded immediately after Dota 2 majors started getting canceled.

From there, EternaLEnVy began playing with Clinton “Fear” Loomis’ business associates. After that team’s dissolution, he played on just a few occasions alongside various North American veterans before finding himself as a free agent when most of his recent teammates went on to form the new SADBOYS squad.

In early 2021, EternaLEnVy was spending much of his time streaming various games on Twitch including Riot Games’ autobattler Teamfight Tactics. In his occasional appearances on social media, he had stated that he intended to return to competitive Dota 2 at some point. That point would appear to be now.
